Alan Buckett Head of VAT at DSH reviews the LexisNexis Tolley conference held on 29 November 2007 on 'The Future of VAT in the Financial and Insurance Sectors'
As the Chairman Stephen Coleclough of PricewaterhouseCoopers explained in his opening remarks this conference was timed to perfection being held the day after the European Commission had released 35 pages on its adoption of a proposal for a Directive aimed at modernising and simplifying the complex VAT rules for financial and insurance services. Although this meant that many of the speakers had to review their talks and slides at the last minute the conference could not have been more topical or informative.
Maybe I am being cynical but whenever I read the phrase 'simplifying complex VAT...
