The amending protocol to the UK/Cyprus double taxation convention, signed in December 2018, entered into force on 2 October 2019.
The provisions of the Protocol take effect from:
1 January 2019 for taxes withheld at source;
6 April 2019 for income tax in the UK;
1 January 2019 for other taxes levied by Cyprus.
This protocol will allow individuals in receipt of government service pensions at the time the new convention came into force in July 2018 to elect for the provisions of the 1974 convention to continue to apply to those payments until 31 December 2024.
