Tolley's VAT and EC Law Conference

Mark McKaig FCIPD AIIT Senior Partner MRM International Tax Services reports on the Tolley's VAT and EC Law Conference held in London on 21 March 2003
In recent years the impact of European Community law on domestic legislation and its application in the UK has become more and more intrusive. For example the three-year cap was untouchable under English and Scots law but fell foul of the general principles of EC law in the Marks & Spencer case.
This important one-day conference which claimed to be the first of its kind brought together some of the most able and erudite speakers to address the impact of EC law on current VAT issues. It was ably chaired by Paul Lasok QC.
