Corporate Responsibility has been moving up the agenda of the tax profession for some time now — examples include the KPMG work on 'Tax in the Boardroom' which has been picked up and expanded by HMRC; PricewaterhouseCoopers' focus on 'Total Tax Contribution'; and the (sometimes polemical) contributions from Richard Murphy of the Tax Justice Network. The topic is beginning to be widely discussed and some 80 people from industry the profession and HMRC attended a CIOT conference on 10 July 2007. The speakers at the conference were Dave Hartnett of HMRC Richard Murphy Ian Brimicombe of AstraZeneca plc Michael Conlon QC and John Whiting of PricewaterhouseCoopers....
