As previously announced at Budget 2011, HMRC intends to withdraw the SA Donate scheme from 6 April 2012. The scheme allows self-assessment taxpayers to direct HMRC to pay any tax refund to charity. HMRC states that the system has not been widely used by taxpayers, and would require ‘an extensive upgrade’ to guard against fraud.
