When I was working with Research In Motion on their expansion into Europe back in the early 2000s I was handed a prototype Blackberry which was being tested for use on UK networks. I thought the buttons looked a bit fiddly and didn’t expect the concept to take off. Thankfully I pursued a career in tax rather than futurology.
Comment on a recent trend in tax.
The UK’s tax regime makes it an increasingly attractive place to do business when compared to many other jurisdictions. I don’t think that the overt political hostility to perceived tax avoidance is damaging in practice as it is part of a wider international trend.
What advice would you give to someone new to the profession?
