How did you end up in tax?
There was no plan: having decided not to pursue a career in clinical psychology I needed as job in a hurry and was attracted by the problem-solving aspects of a career in tax and the training programme offered by the Inland Revenue. I fell on my feet.
What is the best piece of professional advice you’ve been given?
To stop doing something if it creates risk and doesn’t support the business.
What are you most proud of in your recent working life?
Clearly becoming Head of Tax and Pensions for KPMG in the UK this year was a highlight of my career but the moments when I have been most proud have always been when clients have told me that we have made a real difference to their business; especially where the tax advice we have given has helped them solve commercial problems...
