Gordon Brown's eighth Budget speech held few surprises for individuals and the wider business community. Until more detail is revealed in the Finance Bill we will have to reserve judgement on the overall impact on Owner-Managed Businesses (OMBs). The Chancellor appears to have bowed to public pressure in some areas and has not been as aggressive on tax as might have been expected. This is probably due to the forthcoming elections as any major tax rises could easily damage the electoral chances of the Labour Party.
