The Social Security (Contributions) (Re-rating) Consequential Amendment Regulations, SI 2023/330, increase the special rate of class 2 NICs for share fishermen from £3.80 to £4.10 per week, with effect from 6 April 2023. The special rate is higher than the ordinary class 2 rate (£3.45 per week, from 6 April 2023). The extra premium gives share fishermen entitlement to contribution-based jobseeker’s allowance for periods of inactivity (for which payment of ordinary class 2 NICs does not give entitlement).
