New protocol to UK/Switzerland DTC in force

The new protocol to the 1977 UK/Switzerland double taxation convention, signed on 30 November 2017, entered into force on 16 July 2019.

The provisions of the Protocol take effect:

In Switzerland:

• for taxes withheld at source, 1 January 2020; and
• for other taxes, 1 January 2020.

In the UK:

• for taxes withheld at source, 1 January 2020;
• for income tax and capital gains tax, 6 April 2020; and
• for corporation tax, 1 April 2020.
