New appointments at the Treasury

Following the prime minister’s government reshuffle on 13 November 2023, key positions at HM Treasury are now occupied as follows:

  • Laura Trott MBE: chief secretary, with responsibility for public expenditure. She was previously parliamentary under secretary of state at the Department for Work and Pensions between October 2022 and November 2023;
  • Nigel Huddleston: financial secretary, with responsibility for the UK tax system. A former Deloitte and Google employee, Huddleston was previously minister of state at the Department for Business and Trade and before that government whip (Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury) from 20 September 2022 to 7 February 2023; and
  • Bim Afolami: economic secretary, the City Minister responsible for financial services.

Victoria Atkins has been promoted to secretary of state for Health and Social Care, leaving her position as financial secretary after one year in the post. John Glenn, former chief secretary, becomes paymaster general and minister for the Cabinet Office and Andrew Griffith, previously economic secretary, becomes minister of state in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
