Income tax exemption for overseas participants in Euro 2020

printer Mail

The government has laid draft regulations to provide for an income tax exemption for overseas players and officials (including UK residents in the overseas part of a split year) taking part in the UEFA Euro 2020 football tournament to be held in the UK during June and July 2020.

The exemption will be available for duties performed in the period from 1 June to 14 July 2020 and is limited to income derived from the specific role in respect of which an individual has been accredited. The tournament is scheduled to take place between 12 June and 12 July 2020.

Providing for an income tax exemption was a condition of the process for all countries bidding to host matches of the UEFA Euro 2020 final tournament.

The draft Major Sporting Events (Income Tax Exemption) Regulations 2020 are expected to come into force on 31 May 2020.
