HMRC has updated a table setting out what information it will accept over the telephone after it announced that it would accept telephone claims for remission of tax under extra-statutory concession A19. See www.lexisurl.com/Ql8d7.

‘If you think this concession applies to you then you need to telephone HMRC on 0845 300 0627 indicating that you are making a claim under ‘ESC A19’ the department said earlier this month.

The guidance at www.hmrc.gov.uk/esc/esc.htm was updated a few days before it was revealed that HMRC was preparing to write to 1.4 million taxpayers to tell them that they had underpaid tax under the PAYE system.
