Greenhouse gas emissions trading after Brexit

printer Mail

The Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme (Amendment) (EU Exit) (No. 2) Regulations, SI 2019/916, make further changes intended to maintain the monitoring, reporting and verification of greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to current commitments under the EU ETS, should the UK leave the EU without a deal. The regulations will come into force on the later of 30 May 2019 or exit day.

These regulations complement the amendment regulations laid in January (SI 2019/107) by taking account of the new EU monitoring and verification regulations, effective from 1 January 2019, which accommodate changes for phase IV of the EU ETS. These amendments could not be incorporated in the earlier regulations in time.
