At a time of uncertainty in the funding position of many occupational pension schemes trustees are ever more concerned with protecting the assets of their pension scheme.
 
Recent changes to UK pensions legislation have exposed solvent employers to their own raft of problems (see Lesley Browning's article on page 19) but when one or more of the employers of the scheme faces the possibility of becoming insolvent it is up to the trustees to ensure that where the scheme is underfunded the money that is due to the members finds its way to the members.
