Customs: general guarantee account

HMRC has updated its guidance Apply for a general guarantee account and pay disputed amounts to revise the ‘get a guarantor’ section, which now advises that:

  • businesses which provide a customs guarantee in Great Britain must have a financial institution regulated by the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) as their guarantor; and
  • businesses providing a customs guarantee in Northern Ireland must have as their guarantor a financial institution that is either established in Northern Ireland and regulated by the PRA or established in the EU and accredited under the EU regulatory framework.
