Demergers have always been the first tool of choice for companies looking for ways to realise value from their assets particularly for those groups with distinct activities being undertaken in different parts of the group that may have little connection with another part of the group. The recent and current economic turmoil has once again brought demergers to the fore as groups that would not normally consider demergers seek to show or even create value for their shareholders by for example:
