Commission proposes funding for EU customs and Fiscalis programmes

printer Mail

As part of the EU budget for 2021 to 2027, the European Commission has published legislative proposals for a budget of €950m for the EU customs programme (up from €523m) and €270m for the Fiscalis programme (up from €223m), to upgrade IT systems and improve cooperation against tax fraud, evasion and avoidance.

The customs programme helps in the detection of dangerous and counterfeit goods and the collection of customs duties, import VAT and excise duties. Fiscalis is a network supporting cooperation between member states’ tax administrations.

The Commission has drawn up these proposals for 27 member states, which do not take account of any customs agreement with the UK after Brexit. See https://bit.ly/2Mm7oD7.
