The amount of ‘tax under consideration’ by HMRC’s large business directorate rose to £24.8bn for the year ended 31 March 2017, which is a 13% increase over the previous year, according to Pinsent Masons. This figure is 31% higher than the amount similarly ‘under consideration’ in 2014/15.
The financial secretary to the Treasury, Mel Stride, has confirmed in a written answer to a parliamentary question that HMRC is currently pursuing enquiries into 38 football clubs, 90 players and 13 agents, involving tax payments on offshore image rights.

The Office of Tax Simplification has published a focus paper asking for comments by 15 September on whether there is still a demand amongst businesses for disincorporation relief, which is due to expire on 31 March 2018.
HMRC has launched a new online tax forum and dedicated webchat service for small businesses and the self-employed. This is part of the government’s business tax roadmap announced at Budget 2016. Following a pilot in March 2017, HMRC says the forum now has more than 1,000 registered users.
