Philip Stephens is director of the editorial board and chief political commentator at the Financial Times. He has previously been the newspaper's economics editor and political editor. Philip is author of the book Politics and the pound, a study of the management of exchange rates by the British government, and its relations with Europe since 1979, and Tony Blair: the price of leadership.
