As the saying often goes... don't get mad, get even.
The Women in Tax network was set up in response to yet another all-male panel event, where the chairman went so far as to praise his 'balanced panel'. From an informal meeting of a group of 20 or so interested people just 12 months ago, we have progressed to regular meetings in London, Bristol and Leeds, with a Manchester launch taking place this week.
On 28 June, we held our first networking dinner, attended by 119 Women in Tax (and one brave man - Iain Campbell, the ARC representative from HMRC). We met at the London Canal Museum, which was a little different (and more reasonably-priced) than the standard large hotel venue, and welcomed Sacha Romanovitch, UK CEO of Grant Thornton, as our guest speaker. Sacha spoke about finding our true voices and encouraging others to speak - very appropriate in the week after the Brexit vote, and also absolutely in tune with our aim of being a supportive network to raise the voice of women working in all spheres of tax.
Rosina Pullman, lately of TaxAid, spoke about the Bridge the Gap campaign and donations on the evening raised £1,100 for this worthy cause.
