Here's a statistic for you.
This year about 25 000 Americans had their tax returns completed by Indian accountants.
By this I do not mean 'Indian' as in the mis-named aboriginal inhabitants of North America. (Readers might like to insert their own cowboy/indian pun at this point — sioux for professional negligence perhaps? Then again perhaps not.)
No I mean Indian as in citizen of the subcontinent of India. Next year it is reckoned 300 000 American returns will be processed in India. A straw perhaps to indicate the direction of a cold wind blowing through the ranks of the educated middle class. That wind is blowing offshore.
