Nicky Morgan has been elected chair of the Commons Treasury select committee. The former economic secretary and financial secretary to the Treasury succeeds Andrew Tyrie, who stepped down as an MP before the general election. Commenting on her election as chair, she said: ‘I look forward to working with my colleagues on the committee to consistently, impartially and fairly hold the Treasury to account.’ Morgan told the BBC she wants to look at ‘the wider Treasury remit’, including issues such as household debt and tax policy.
