Tax credits continue to be a thorn in the side of the Revenue. On 22 April the Public Accounts Committee of the House of Commons published a report covering aspects of the new tax credits in the first year of their operation. On the well-publicised IT failures the Committee said in their Conclusions and Recommendations:
'The Department should have been more cautious and realistic in fixing the timetable and assessing the resources needed for setting up and testing New Tax Credit assessment and payment procedures and checking claims.'
