The chancellor of the exchequer has commissioned the Office for Budget Responsibility to produce an economic and fiscal forecast for Wednesday 23 March 2022.
The publication of these forecasts often coincides with a fiscal event. Under the UK government’s preferred budget timetable, budgets take place in the autumn, and there is a Spring statement at which new consultations are launched. If there is a Spring statement in 2022, it is therefore likely to be held on or around 23 March 2022 – although, as recent years have demonstrated, the preferred timetable can be subject to change.
