European Commission suspends customs duties and VAT on medical supplies

printer Mail

The European Commission has published a decision allowing member states affected by the coronavirus pandemic to temporarily suspend customs duties and VAT on imports of protective equipment, testing kits or medical devices such as ventilators. The measure will apply to imports made in the six-month period between 30 January and 31 July 2020, with a possibility for further extension.

The Commission has issued an indicative list of goods covered by the decision.

The UK announced a corresponding waiver of import duty and VAT on 1 April, which will also apply until 31 July.
