HMRC has published Revenue & Customs Brief 29/13, National Insurance contributions: HMRC’s position following the Court of Appeal decision in the case of ITV Services Ltd v Commissioners for HMRC.

HMRC has announced it will be sending letters to approximately 450 exam scheme employers to advise them that, from 6 April 2014, they should operate standard PAYE and report it to HMRC in real time. Letters will be sent out to approximately 50 elect schemes before the end of October 2013.

HMRC has announced that this month, around 167,000 employers who have missed one or more deadlines for reporting PAYE will receive a letter, and that employers need to act now and start reporting under real time information (RTI).

HMRC has publicised the fact that a new employment status – that of the employee shareholder – took effect from 1 September 2013.

HMRC has published two sets of statistical data on tax for 2012/13: the first being PAYE income tax and NIC and corporate tax receipts from the banking sector, and the second being corporation tax receipts and liabilities, both viewable on HMRC’s website.
