Presenting this year's Hardman Lecture — 'Honesty is the best policy' — Simon McKie put morality at the heart of his theme. He looked back to the Wyman Debate earlier in the year and the motion 'This House believes that tax is not a moral issue — it's purely a matter of law'. He then confessed to the bizarre experience of finding himself supporting the Revenue Departments' opposition to the motion and voting against members of his own profession.
