HMRC's 'new approach' to transfer pricing has now been in operation for a number of months. The early evidence is that while there has been no marked increase in the number of enquiries as yet there has been a much greater focus in HMRC's approach to the existing investigations. It is also clear that where new enquiries have started the way of working definitely has changed. In many ways this is encouraging as the whole emphasis of the new approach which came out of the Varney Review was that HMRC will apply better project management use specialists and above all significantly reduce the time it takes to resolve transfer pricing enquiries.
