Tax Credits: Are They Getting Better?

This may be the season for writing about the 2006 Pre-Budget Report but the numerous tax credit changes (some of them improvements) that were announced a year earlier in the 2005 PBR are still working their way through the system. There was little on tax credits in the 2006 PBR to catch the attention — most of the rates and threshold rose in line with prices except for the child element of child tax credit which went up in line with earnings while the income thresholds at which WTC and CTC begin to be progressively withdrawn did not change.
