The House of Lords European Union Committee was tasked with reviewing the actions taken to date by HMRC in order to curtail the £3-billion-a-year 'industry' of missing trader intra-community (MTIC) fraud and to look at other possibilities for action. A number of witnesses were interviewed by the Committee during the early part of this year concluding with the interview of two senior officers of HMRC on 17 April: Mike Eland and Tony Walker.
