Over the past few months, there have been a number of tax announcements which will impact on SMEs. The changes in respect of entrepreneurs’ relief and investors’ relief are to be welcomed. The latter makes investment into private companies an attractive proposition. The availability of investors’ relief where trustees of a settlement dispose of qualifying shares widens the funding base for SMEs. FRS 102 is causing headaches for many advisers and the updated guidance from HMRC on the tax impacts may help to alleviate this but there are still unanswered questions in relation to interest free loans.
