Taxpayers have experienced problems when attempting to use relief codes 34 and 35 when filing online SDLT returns, the Law Society has reported. HMRC says it is working to resolve the problem and expects it to be fixed on 27 July 2015. HMRC advises taxpayers completing their SDLT returns in the meantime to input relief code 28 in place of codes 34 and 35, then contact the stamp taxes helpline (www.bit.ly/1JuH0gI) with their UTRN and request the code be changed to 34 or 35 as appropriate once the SDLT payment has been made; and HMRC should then confirm in writing (SDLT7) that the code change has taken place.
