Scottish income tax rates approved

MSPs have passed the 2024/25 Scottish Budget Bill. The rates and limits for income tax in Scotland were approved formally by the Scottish Parliament on 22 February 2024 via the required Scottish Rate Resolution. This means that the following rates and bands will apply for taxable non-savings and non-dividend income of Scottish taxpayers for 2024/25:

  • starter rate: 19%, on income up to £2,306;
  • Scottish basic rate: 20%, on income above £2,306 and up to £13,991;
  • intermediate rate: 21%, on income above £13,991 and up to £31,092;
  • higher rate: 42%, on income above £31,092 and up to £62,430;
  • advanced rate: 45%, on income above £62,430 and up to £125,140; and
  • top rate: 48%, on income above £125,140.
