It is over six months since I last wrote an article on tax avoidance. In that time I am pleased to say that more anti-avoidance advisers have joined the Department. By coincidence we have recruited one from each of the Big 4 firms of accountants. In addition we have had exercises to recruit anti-avoidance partial exemption officers into operational roles and these are now in place. This concentration of resources into anti-avoidance regrettably means that less resource can be channelled into providing the kind of high level support which I would like to see us provide to businesses who are not involved in avoidance....
