‘There is one big problem when it comes to discussing how much or little some large companies pay in tax in Britain. We just don’t know. The companies don’t have to disclose it. And most don’t want to. The Revenue knows, of course, but argues that it cannot publish the figures because they are confidential. I gather that people at the highest level of government are keen to see this change. That should make some companies a little sweaty.’
