Press watch: ‘Occupy London’

printer Mail

‘Hundreds of activists occupying the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral in protest against the global financial system are digging in for a prolonged stay in the heart of the City of London ... Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, made an impromptu appearance on the steps of St Paul’s, telling the crowd his organisation would target corporate tax evasion – a target of the UK Uncut movement – and financial institutions in the coming months. He said Saturday’s protest was “not about the destruction of law, it’s about the construction of law”.’

Financial Times, 17 October 2011

‘Around 500 people have signed up for the long haul ... Demands include an end to global tax injustice and for UK democracy to start representing people rather than corporations.’

Banking Times, 17 October 2011
