It came as no surprise that the PBR was highly charged with political messages and very short term in its outlook.
 
As many of us would do faced with the awful prospect of having to make up a huge financial deficit without upsetting people of whom you are about to ask another favour (vote for me at the next election) the government has put off the evil day until after the election. Not surprisingly therefore it was the more populist measures (together with the surprise NIC increase) that grabbed the headlines.
