The British Retail Consortium (BRC) is the representative body for the UK retail industry. The importance of the retail sector is considerable with more than 188 000 VAT-registered retail businesses in the UK operating in more than 322 000 retail outlets. Our membership includes retailers large and small in every sector of the industry — large multiples and department stores charity shops and small and medium-sized independent retailers.
 
Retail is everywhere. The sheer size of the industry ensures its place as a cornerstone of the economy both local and national. We play an important role as an economic driver in helping to create new markets...
