NICs rates and thresholds for 2021/22

The Social Security (Contributions) (Rates, Limits and Thresholds Amendments and National Insurance Funds Payments) Regulations, SI 2021/157, set out the following NICs rates, limits and thresholds from 6 April 2021:

  • Class 1: primary threshold (£184), upper earnings limit (£967), secondary threshold (£170), upper secondary threshold for employers of employees under 21 (£967), apprentice upper secondary threshold (£967) and monthly and annual equivalent amounts (the primary lower earnings limit remains at £120);
  • Class 2: small profits threshold (£6,515) (the weekly rate remains at £3.05);
  • Class 3 voluntary contributions: rate (£15.40);
  • Class 4: lower profits limit (£9,568), upper profits limit (£50,270).
