In dealing with international taxation we recognise that in today's global economy we cannot act unilaterally. That is why the UK has been playing a leading role in international efforts to increase transparency and address harmful tax practices. The current level of information exchange and collaboration between governments on tax matters is unprecedented. Global tax practitioners have commented that this potentially brings benefits to businesses as well as tax practitioners. There are opportunities for practitioners business and governments to work together to help businesses adapt to and work with this new level of scrutiny and to develop tax systems which encourage investment and make transparency worthwhile.
