Draft legislation for the new social investment tax relief was published on 10 December 2013 and revised on 14 February 2014. The rate of the relief and limits on investment will be announced at Budget 2014 and take effect from 6 April 2014.
Exchequer secretary David Gauke said: ‘In 2014, the government will introduce a new social investment tax relief – one of the first of its kind in the world. This is the latest in a series of steps that the government has taken to create the right conditions for social enterprise to thrive in the UK – including the launch of Big Society Capital in 2012. I recognise that there is more to do to make this tax relief work as effectively as possible. This roadmap sets out the government’s plans in this area for the coming months.’
