The Designation of Special Tax Sites (Liverpool City Region, West Midlands and North East Investment Zones) Regulations, SI 2024/383, designate new special tax sites in the respective three investment zones. Each of the designations has effect from 8 April 2024.
In Scotland, the Designation of Special Tax Sites (Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport) Regulations, SI 2024/380 designate several special tax sites within the Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport. These designations also have effect from 8 April 2024.
The UK government announced at Autumn statement 2023 that the sunset date for the freeport and investment zone tax reliefs would be extended by five years to 30 September 2031. The Treasury has the power (via regulations) to set that date, or a later date should it choose to do so.
