Standing Committee A resumed on Tuesday 18 May and swiftly passed Clause 79 (Exemption for loaned computer equipment). This was followed by a lively debate on Clause 80 and Schedule 14 (Vans) which Quentin Davies (Conservative Grantham and Stamford) described as a 'sledgehammer to crack a nut'. He criticised the complexity of Schedule 14 and commented that 'we should not generate additional gratuitous complexity simply to provide an earning stream for advisers'.
The Economic Secretary (John Healey) responded:
'The hon. Gentleman asked why we did not base the proposals for the reform of the taxation of company-provided vans on those for the reform...
