Alan Dolton covers the Finance Bill Debate in the House of Lords
 
The House of Lords considered the Finance Bill on Tuesday 19 July. Lord McKenzie of Luton introduced the Bill commenting that it
 
'introduces important measures to promote fairness and tackle tax avoidance while keeping pace with the challenges and opportunities presented by the rapidly evolving global economy'. (Col 1361.)
 
He made particular reference to VAT avoidance and to the recent report by the Select Committee on Economic Affairs:
 
'I welcome the positive comments about the disclosure rules made by the Economic Affairs Committee in its report. The rules are a key part of the Government's strategy for tackling avoidance and ensuring fairness. They target the secrecy and concealment...
