Alan Dolton Editor of Tolley's Tax Cases summarises the first sessions of the Public Bill Committee debate on the Finance Bill
The House of Commons Public Bill Committee (which is the new name for what used to be called 'Standing Committee') met at 4.30pm on Tuesday 8 May to begin its consideration of the Finance Bill. The Committee comprises 19 Labour MPs 10 Conservatives 4 Liberal Democrats and Stewart Hosie of the Scottish National Party.
The Chief Secretary to the Treasury (Stephen Timms) explained that the Paymaster-General (Dawn Primarolo) was unable to attend as she had only recently been released from hospital.
