Robin Williamson the Low Incomes Tax Reform Group's Technical Director considers the report of the Treasury Sub-Committee on the administration of tax credits
 
The news media had already been focusing much critical attention on the tax credit system when on 6 June the Treasury sub-committee published its report The Administration of Tax Credits1 after a six-month enquiry. With the committee's report came a welcome change in emphasis from the reactionary criticism of the press to a measured and balanced assessment of the system its strengths and weaknesses and what the Government and HMRC must do to improve its operation.
 
In the summary to its report the committee concludes:
