I am hugely grateful to the editor of The Tax Journal for her boldness and originality in allowing us to put together a special edition featuring the fruits of tax teaching and research at Queen Mary. If the contributions have a more academic flavour than is normal in The Tax Journal that may be a wholesome reminder that tax is both a very practical and a very academic subject and that academic thinking can stimulate practical solutions and vice versa.
