The European Commission is holding a ‘tax fairness conference’ in Brussels on 28 and 29 June. Under the strapline ‘how fairness and taxation can go hand in hand’, the conference will cover issues including:
the role for social justice;
balancing fairness and efficiency in taxation;
applying principles of fairness to policy making;
‘taxing fairly, taxing global’;
taxing capital;
whether corporates or citizens should bear the burden of taxation; and
taxation, social mobility and entrepreneurship.
Speakers include EU commissioner Pierre Moscovici, Judith Freedman (professor of taxation law, Oxford University) and Richard Murphy (professor of practice in international political economy, City University and director at Tax Research UK).
