EC extends covid-19 state aid temporary framework

printer Mail

The European Commission has announced a further extension to its temporary framework for state aid measures, which provides for a relaxation of the EU state aid rules in order to support the economy in the context of the covid-19 outbreak.

Following a previous extension granted in October 2020, the temporary framework was due to expire on 30 June 2021, except for recapitalisation measures that could be granted until 30 September 2021. The Commission has now announced a further extension of all measures, including recapitalisation measures, until 31 December 2021. In addition, the limits set out in the temporary framework for certain support measures have been increased. Up to 31 December 2022, the Commission will also enable member states to convert guarantees and loans granted under the temporary framework into other forms of aid, such as direct grants, provided the conditions of the temporary framework are met.
